I am humbled beyond belief with your love and prayers for Rick. It has been quite a journey and I've learned so much that I will be sharing. Trusting in the Lord with ALL my heart and claiming His word, His truth and giving Him our situation fully has been the greatest gift of all.
Many years ago I asked a very wise and Godly woman who was placed in my life and has been a great gift to me.... how do you take every thought captive to Christ... how do you stay strong in the midst of these storms of life? When we are facing losing a parent, a child, a close friend...,finding out health diagnosis is not what we are expecting.. Disappointments over our children, friends, all of the difficult life circumstances...
She shared she immediately starts singing a song that claims the promises of God right at the moment the thoughts begin to take over...
This is claiming God's word immediately, His truth, as soon as we begin to question, or doubt tries to show its ugly face... and I will tell you it has helped me so much! I love the new song Waymaker and have found it to be my song I sing when I start to have difficult moments or when thoughts try to come in that shouldn't be there...
When I affirm who He is with my soul and mouth, something changes inside me. It is powerful to speak the Word of God over our lives. And one way we can do this is by using statements of affirmation through the truth of Gods Word in songs, in the Bible and claim them immediately.

He makes a way. This is probably a reference to Matthew 19:26, which itself foreshadows Christ’s sacrifice.
He does miracles.
He keeps all His promises (Joshua 21:45, Joshua 23:14, 1 Kings 8:56, Romans 4:21, 2 Corinthians 1:20, Hebrews 10:23, and 2 Peter 3:9).
He is the light that defeats darkness (Psalm 107:10-16, Luke 1:79, John 1:1-13, John 12:46, Ephesians 5:8, Colossians 1:13, and 1 Peter 2:9).
God is in the business of giving rest to the weary, healing their broken hearts (Matthew 11:28-30).
Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6).
God supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
I trust that God has good things planned for my life. [Jeremiah 29:11]

I trust that my faith in God is growing each day. [Psalm 37:5]
I trust in God even when I don’t understand. [Proverbs 3:5]
I trust God is sustaining me even when I feel weak. [Psalm 55:22]
